Tabla
The tabla is a prominent beating instrument in Indian classical music, consisting of a pair of hand-played drums. Known for its involved rhythmic patterns and tonal versatility, the tabla includes the smaller, higher-pitched dayan (right drum) and the larger, deeper-sounding bayan (left drum). This instrument may make sounds ranging from sharp and crisp to deep and resonant bass notes, by using fingers and hands. It forms an essential component of Hindustani classical music as well as many Indian folk and popular music traditions.
